Pray.

Poverty. Persecution. Racism. Disease. Death. Division. Tyranny. Abuse.

Is this the world we live in?

I don’t read the news as often as I should. But I read it today. It seems like the world is just more cruel then I could ever imagine.

Reading the news fills me with anxiety. I’ll be honest. That’s why I don’t read it. I had no idea how selfish of me that was.

My brothers and sisters in Christ are all around the world right now being persecuted because of their faith.

Men and women are being killed because of their skin color.

Children are dying in poverty every day.

People are turning on each other because of the nature of this pandemic.

The list. goes. on.

It’s so easy to feel hopeless in the midst of all this chaos and…well…cruelty. The world is a pretty dark place with dark people who do awful things.

Not informing myself on these issues made my prayers very small and self-focused. There is a whole world that needs my prayers. So why don’t I…why don’t WE pray more?

As a follower of Christ, I have the privilege to talk to the One who is above it all. He is the light that casts out the darkness. I can come before the God of all things and He will hear me. Guaranteed.

Over and over in the Bible God reminds His people that He hears them. He hears when we cry out to Him on behalf of the weary and brokenhearted. He hears the hopeless.

And Christ is the answer.

The answer to our prayers may not look the way we thought, but our Good Good Father is working all of it for our good and His glory. We can trust in God’s faithfulness, goodness, righteousness and justice in all things. He will have the last word in every single seemingly hopeless situation.

YOU can be a part of that!

PRAY.

Let God hear your voice in crying out for those in need. For those who are hurting. Fill heaven with your pleas for them. Do not be silent. Do not be complacent.

I’ve heard it said that the opposite of love is not hate. It is complacency. Don’t fall into the trap. It is so easy to.

You may not feel like you can do anything about the issues in this world but you serve the God WHO CAN.

He executes justice for the oppressed, He gives food to the hungry.

He sets the prisoners free; the LORD opens the eyes of the blind.

He watches over the sojourners; He upholds the widow and the fatherless.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.

He lifts up the humble; He casts the wicked to the ground.

I got this list from Psalm 146 and 147, read the full chapters for more of God’s amazing attributes!

This is the God we serve.

We serve the God of miracles. There is hope. We have access to that. And we can spread that hope to the world. To the darkest places in the world we can send the light.

Pray.
